About the Temple

Tiruchanur, about 5 km from Tirupati, is the home of Goddess Padmavathi, the consort of Lord Venkateswara of Tirumala. Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) runs the temple and records the belief that she appeared on a golden lotus in the Padma Sarovaram tank. Many pilgrims see her before they go up to Tirumala, a custom TTD's own page describes.

Why visit

  • Seek Padmavathi's blessings, which by TTD's account pilgrims believe should come before darshan at Tirumala.
  • See the Padma Sarovaram tank and the old Krishna and Suryanarayana shrines beside the main temple.

Before You Go

Time to allow

1 hour to 2 hours inside the temple. This is a planning allowance, not a queue time; festival days take longer.

Dress

TTD's published dress code asks men for a dhoti or pyjama with an upper cloth and women for a sari, half-sari or churidar with an upper cloth. That page is written for Tirumala; whether Tiruchanur applies the same rule was not confirmed, so traditional dress is the safe choice.

  • Friday Abhishekam
