Giri Pradakshina at Yadagirigutta on Swathi Nakshatra
Every month on Swathi, the birth star of Narasimha, devotees walk round the Yadagirigutta hill before dawn to keep their vows. Many walk barefoot, and devotees believe the round earns the Lord's blessing.
What happens
- Gather before dawn at the foot of the hill near the Vaikunta Dwaram. In November 2024 the walk began at 5:45 am after a pooja by the temple's Executive Officer.
- Walk the road round the hill, about 4 km, chanting Namo Narasimhaya. Many devotees, women included, walk barefoot.
- Inside, priests perform the Sataghatabhishekam on Swathi days only, and devotees can book to attend through the Devasthanam.
- Expect long darshan queues after the walk. On a Swathi Sunday in June 2025, general darshan took about four hours.

When to go
Devotees walk on Swathi nakshatra every month, starting early in the morning. The Swathi that falls in Karthika month draws the largest crowds.

Per the panchangam, Swathi falls on 8 November 2026, then 5 to 6 December and 1 to 2 January. The Devasthanam does not post these dates, so confirm the day locally.
