Krishna Janmashtami and Vitla Pindi in Udupi

Udupi 1–2 days

At the Udupi Krishna temple, Janmashtami night ends with the Arghya Pradana offering at midnight. The next afternoon Vitla Pindi fills Car Street with a golden chariot procession and the breaking of curd pots.

  3. Next morning brings a Mahapuja, a mass meal and Hulivesha tiger dancers at the Rajangana. In 2026 the temple prepared about 1.5 lakh unde and chakkuli sweets for devotees.
  4. In the afternoon a clay idol of Krishna rides a golden chariot along Car Street, later immersed in the Madhwa Sarovara. In 2026 the procession ran from 3 pm to 5:30 pm.
  5. Along the way, participants, many dressed as cowherds, break pots of milk, saffron and curd hung high over the street. Elsewhere in Karnataka teams form human pyramids to reach the pot.
