Tirumala Srivari Brahmotsavam and Garuda Seva
The Brahmotsavam is Tirumala's biggest festival, nine days on which Malayappa Swamy, the processional deity, rides a different vahanam round the Mada streets each morning and night. Devotees believe Brahma himself first held it, and the fifth night's Garuda Seva draws the largest crowd.
What happens
- The festival opens with Dhwajarohanam, the raising of the flag, and the Pedda Sesha Vahanam that night.
- Over the next days the Lord rides Chinna Sesha, Hamsa, Simha, Kalpavriksha and Sarvabhoopala, among others. On day five he appears as Mohini in the morning and on Garuda at night.
- TTD calls Garuda Seva the most important day. In September 2026 it set up 190 galleries on the Mada streets for about 1.8 lakh devotees, and they filled from the night before.
- Day eight brings the Rathotsavam, the chariot procession. On the last morning the Sudarshana Chakram is bathed in the Swami Pushkarini, and the flag comes down that evening.
