Customs, rules and beliefs

  • RitualsAt Srisailam, devotees believe Sakshi Ganapathi, about 3 km from the temple, keeps a record of every pilgrim, so many stop there to have their visit noted.
  • RitualsPathala Ganga, about 1 km from the Srisailam temple, is the spot where devotees bathe in the Krishna; Wikipedia counts 852 steps down to it.
  • Good to knowAP Tourism lists Srisailam temple hours as 05:30 to 13:00 and 18:00 to 22:00; government tourism elsewhere gives 06:00 to 15:30 and 18:00 to 22:00, so confirm locally.
  • Good to knowA March 2026 report says traffic on the forest road to Srisailam is stopped at 21:00 at both ends, and drivers should go slowly after dark because animals cross.

  • DamSrisailam DamAbout 4 km from Srisailam Mallikarjuna Temple

A tall dam across a deep gorge of the Krishna on the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana border, a few kilometres from the Mallikarjuna temple. Its reservoir backs up deep into the Nallamala hills.

  • WaterfallMallela TheerthamAbout 21 km from Srisailam Mallikarjuna Temple

A perennial waterfall in the Nallamala forest of the Amrabad Tiger Reserve, where the stream falls onto Shiva lingas before joining the Krishna. Devotees believe sages did penance here.

    Best season
October to February, per the tiger reserve.
    For families
The reserve places it about 30 km from Mannanur, inside forest, so plan it as a half-day detour by road.
