Maha Shivaratri Jatara at Vemulawada
The Devasthanam calls the Maha Shivaratri jatara its major festival, when lakhs of pilgrims come to Rajanna and the temple stays open round the clock. In 2026 the jatara was held at the nearby Bheemeshwara temple while the main temple was renovated.
What happens
- Many pilgrims bathe in the Dharma Gundam tank before darshan, believing its water is holy and healing.
- On the festival day the priests perform Maha Lingarchana at 6:30 pm.
- At midnight comes the Lingodbhavakala Mahanyasa Purvaka Ekadasa Rudrabhishekam, the high point of the night.
- The state government presents silk clothes (pattu vastrams) to the deity. In 2026 a minister offered them at the Bheemeshwara temple on Shivaratri day.
