Amaravati and 2 more places 1–2 days

The Krishna Pushkaralu is a 12-day festival of the Krishna river held once in 12 years. Pilgrims bathe at the ghats and many families perform rites for their departed parents, which devotees believe brings them peace.

What happens

  1. Take a holy dip in the Krishna at a ghat during the 12 days. In 2016 the festival opened with a dip at Durga Ghat in Vijayawada.
  2. Many families perform pinda pradanam for their departed parents on the riverbank, a rite priests describe as essential during Pushkaralu.
  3. Pilgrims then visit the temples by the river. In 2016 special pujas were held at the Kanaka Durga hill shrine in Vijayawada.
