Navaratri and Vijayadashami at Kollur Mookambika
Navaratri in the month of Ashwin is one of the two main festivals of the Mookambika temple at Kollur. Families come for the goddess's nine nights, the flower chariot on Mahanavami and the pre-dawn opening on Vijayadashami.
What happens
- Through Navaratri the temple holds daily rituals, including Shatarudrabhishekam, Maha Naivedya, Mangalarati, Deeparadhana and Pradosha puja, alongside cultural programmes.
- On Mahanavami a Chandika Yaga is followed by the Pushpa Rathotsava. In 2026 the goddess was placed on a flower-decked chariot at 8:45 am and taken around three times.
- On Vijayadashami the temple opens at 3 am so that children can begin their first letters. Our vidyarambham page covers that rite in full.
- The day closes with the Vijaya Rathotsava in the evening. In 2019 the Kadiru Habba harvest rite and Navannaprashana, the new-rice meal, were also held that day.
