The Kasi-Rameswaram Yatra at Ramanathaswamy Temple
Many Hindu families believe a Kasi pilgrimage is complete only after worship at Rameswaram. Pilgrims bathe at Rameswaram, carry its sand to Kasi, and come back with Ganga water for Ramanathaswamy.
What happens
- Pilgrims first bathe in the sea at Agni Theertham and take sand and water from Rameswaram.
- In Kasi, they place the sand in the Ganga and offer the Rameswaram water to Kasi Viswanathar.
- They return with Ganga water and offer it in abhishekam to Ramanathaswamy, which completes the vow.
- The temple's history calls the yatra one of Hinduism's key duties, beginning in Kasi and complete only after worship at Rameswaram.
