Kanipakam Brahmotsavam from Vinayaka Chavithi
The Varasiddhi Vinayaka temple at Kanipakam holds a 21-day Brahmotsavam that starts on Vinayaka Chavithi, with the processional Vinayaka taken out on a different vahanam on festival days. Devotees come from across the country, and the temple pauses most paid sevas while it runs.
What happens
- On Vinayaka Chavithi the temple holds a special abhishekam in the morning and a Gramotsavam in the evening, and the flag is hoisted the next day.
- On festival evenings the processional Vinayaka goes out on a vahanam. In 2024 these included the Mushika, Vrushaba, Adhikara Nandi, Ravana Brahma, Surya Prabha and Kamadhenu vahanams, and a Pushpa Pallaki.
- The Rathotsavam and the Thirukalyanam fall on the same day. In 2024 that was 14 Sep, the eighth day counting Vinayaka Chavithi as the first.
- The festival closes with the Teppotsavam, the float festival, on its last day (27 Sep in 2024).

Vinayaka Chavithi 2027 falls on Saturday 4 September, and the Brahmotsavam runs 21 days from that day. The 2026 festival ran from 14 September to 4 October; 2027 dates are not yet announced.
