Godavari Pushkaralu 2027 at Rajamahendravaram and Bhadrachalam
The Godavari Pushkaralu is a 12-day river festival held once in 12 years, when pilgrims bathe in the Godavari and many honour their ancestors. Devotees believe one dip in these days carries the merit of years of river baths.
What happens
- Take a holy dip in the Godavari at a ghat. The district notes the belief that this dip gives the merit of bathing in 12 other rivers over 12 years.
- Many families perform pinda pradanam for their ancestors on the riverbank, a rite priests describe as essential during Pushkaralu.
- After bathing, pilgrims worship at the temples on the riverbank. At Bhadrachalam the temple asks devotees to bathe in the Godavari and then worship Sita Ramachandra Swamy.

- Good to knowOfficials plan about 440 ghats in Andhra Pradesh for 2027, so a smaller ghat away from Rajamahendravaram's centre can be calmer.
