Aadi Perukku on the Kaveri at Srirangam

What happens

1. Newly married couples, women and families reach the ghats from early morning to give thanks to the Kaveri.
2. They set out turmeric threads, bangles, flowers and rice on banana leaves, light camphor and pray to the river.
3. By custom, married women change their thali and pray for their husbands' long life, and unmarried women pray for a good match.
4. Farmers see the high water as a sign of a good season and begin sowing on the day.
